Sunscreens – what you need to know

Sun protection is a necessary part of skin care. Sun exposure, especially UVA light accelerates a process of skin aging, and what’s more important – can cause skin cancer, including malignant melanoma. That is why we should use products with substances that protect our skin whole year, but especially during Summer. People who do outdoor and water sports, taking antibiotics or other drugs that make the skin sun-sensitive should pay special attention to applying sunscreen.

When choosing the right product, remember about:

  1. Good products contain filters which protect from both UVA and UVB light.
  2. If you have sensitive skin – choose products with more physical filters, they reflect the sunlight. If you have healthy skin, with no tendency to allergy, you can use creams with more chemical filters, they absorb sun rays.
  3. If you have oily and/or acne-prone skin look for non-comedogenic products. They don’t clog the pores and you don’t have to worry about new imperfections.
  4. Pay attention to SPF factor: during the day for bright complexion use 25-30 factor, for dark complexion: 15-20. If you go to the beach, hiking etc. – choose blocker, products with 50+ factor (the mark 50+ means that they contain the highest possible factor).
  5. Apply Sunscreen on moisturizing cream about 15-20 minutes before going out.
  6. Apply again after every bath (in the sea, lake, or shower) even if you use products marked as waterproof. You should also remember to apply sunscreen every 2 hours if you are on the beach.
  7. Remember about ears, neck, and head (in places you don’t have hair)

Have fun during your holidays and enjoy long, sunny days, but remember – your skin needs a lot of protection during Summer!
